Founded in 1925, Holy Name of Jesus Parish has been a spiritual home in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset District for nearly a century. As we approach our 100th anniversary on October 26, 2025, we reflect on our rich history and look forward to a bright future of faith, service, and community.
Our journey began under the leadership of Father Richard Ryan, the parish’s first pastor. The inaugural Mass was celebrated on October 26, 1925, in a rented community hall at Kirkham Street and 45th Avenue. Just a year later, our first church was built on 38th Avenue between Irving and Judah Streets.
Today, Holy Name of Jesus Parish remains a vibrant center of worship and fellowship. Our Church, located at the corner of 39th Avenue and Lawton Street, serves as the spiritual home for our parishioners. Nearby, the Pastoral Center (affectionately known as the Parish Office) is located at 1555 39th Avenue, housing our administrative offices and providing space for parish activities and ministries.
The Pastoral Center is the hub of parish life, offering Religious Education programs, the Conservatory of Music, Bible Studies, multiple Parish Organization offices, and space for various community activities and meetings.
As we prepare for our Centennial Celebration, we invite you to be part of this historic milestone—whether as a long-time parishioner or a new visitor seeking a welcoming faith community.
Under the guidance of Fr. Cameron Faller, our Pastor, we continue to grow in faith, service, and fellowship.
We look forward to celebrating this incredible journey together. Stay tuned for upcoming Centennial events and special Masses as we mark this historic occasion!
